I interviewed the architect from Minas Gerais, William Ramos Abdalla, and our conversation was structured around three axes: training and influences; professional posture and thinking; main works, with a special focus on the "brutalist" language in his projects carried out in Belo Horizonte. William Ramos Abdalla, architect and urban planner, was born on June 27, 1940, in the city of Pirapora, Minas Gerais. He graduated in 1963 in architecture at the School of Architecture of the Federal University of Minas Gerais/UFMG, and soon after, he completed a postgraduate degree at the University of Brasília/UNb, at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Department of Architecture, which was not completed due to the military coup of 1964. The focus was on Prefabricated Architecture, and had João Filgueiras Lima (Lelé) as advisor. It was during this period in Brasília that he studied with the architects Armando de Holanda, Glauco Campelo, Clementina Duarte, Geraldo Santana, among others. In the years 1973/1974, he took the lato sensu postgraduate course (specialization) at the "University of London, School of Environmental Studies (Development Planning Unit)", and in 2005, he took the stricto sensu course (master's degree) at the Pontifical Catholic University/PUC of Minas Gerais, in Spatial Information Treatment in the Department of Geography.
