VISUAL LITERACY AS A TOOL FOR TEACHING THE ARTS

Abstract

This article has as research object the cladding of modern single-family residential buildings in Campina Grande-PB. The objective is to analyze the elements of the surface design of these works, focusing on their morphological structure, formal patterns and other iconographic aspects, seeking a technical-constructive understanding, identifying rules and formal principles of two- and three-dimensional design, with the aim of understanding the message through visual literacy, bringing the teaching of the arts closer to the student's daily life. Thus, we must see the surfaces as a communication tool between the teacher and the student, analyzing them through the load of information contained in the printed patterns, bringing together the constructive elements that are in people's daily lives and that, sometimes, go unnoticed. The research methodology was developed through bibliographic research and document analysis on modernity in local architecture. It is a multidisciplinary research, which dialogues between knowledge of design, arts and architecture.
