EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABILITY IN ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM
A CASE STUDY AT TIRADENTES UNIVERSITY, SERGIPE

This article shows the perceptions of Architecture and Urbanism students at Tiradentes University (UNIT) regarding sustainability in their academic training. The exploratory and descriptive research involved a literature review, documentary analysis of the Course Pedagogical Plan (CPP), and an online questionnaire administered to 46 students, using a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative). Results revealed that although nearly half of the course subjects address sustainability, the topic is still presented in a fragmented way with limited integration across the curriculum. Students recognize its importance but highlight challenges such as superficial discussions, lack of interdisciplinarity, and scarcity of practical activities. Qualitative data reinforced the demand for greater curricular integration, better didactic resources, and hands-on experiences such as workshops and technical visits. The study concludes that sustainability is in the process of consolidation at UNIT, but pedagogical restructuring is needed to make it a central axis of academic training by integrating theory and practice and enhancing real-world student engagement.
