ART INTEGRATED INTO THE ARCHITECTURE OF JOÃO PESSOA

This essay analyzes two murals incorporated into public buildings in João Pessoa — the former Regional Headquarters of the INPS and the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba — with the aim of understanding the connections between art and architecture. Selected from the ten examples presented in the book Documents of Modern Architecture in Paraíba, the panels stand out for their integration with architectural surfaces. One is executed in molded concrete; the other combines marble and steel over a concrete base. The works result from collaboration between artists and architects, articulating aesthetic value and functionality. They reflect the principles of Brazilian modernism, proposing a synthesis of form, technique, and artistic expression. The research contributes to the appreciation of João Pessoa’s artistic and architectural heritage.
