DELFIM AMORIM AVANT-BRÉSIL
Abstract
The work and career of the architect Delfim Amorim before he emigrated to Brazil in 1951 is the subject of a master’s Thesis that is being developed at FAUP, Oporto. Given his decision to move from Portugal, his built and projected works are being forgotten, as has his activity as a militant architect when it came to fight for the modernist values in 1940’s fascist Portugal. Amorim’s activity between 1944 and 1951 is currently in a bad state of conservation, besides being dispersed and not studied. This research pretends to contribute to its contextualization through a chronological and synthetic reading of the built, unbuilt and demolished examples, crossing them with his writings and with his CODA’s academic project – perhaps his most identifiable and revealing production of his position regarding what it means to be modern.
