Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission is original and unpublished, and it is not under consideration for publication in another journal.
  • The text has been written by (or co-authored with) a PhD holder or a PhD candidate (in the case of articles).
  • The main submission file is in Microsoft Office Word format (.doc), WITHOUT identification.
  • The following mandatory documents must be attached as supplementary files: author identification document (for all genres); originality statement (for articles, essays, and reviews); translation authorization (for translations); interview authorization (for interviews).
  • The text complies with the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Author Guidelines, available on the “About the Journal” page.
  • All authors must have an active ORCID identifier. Otherwise, they must create one free of charge at https://orcid.org/
  • In the case of articles resulting from research involving human subjects (cf. Resolution No. 510, April 7, 2016), authors must mandatorily attach the favorable opinion of the Ethics Committee (cf. Plataforma Brasil or the country of origin of the research) in the “supplementary documents” at the time of submission. Otherwise, the article cannot be evaluated.
  • RLR publishes bilingual issues. If the original article (in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, or German) receives favorable reviews for publication, the authors undertake to provide a translation into another language (Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, or German) within the deadline set by the journal. The translation must be carried out only after the submitted version has been approved.
  • The translation into the chosen language (Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, or German) must be carried out by a professional in the field.
  • As it is affiliated with the Federal University of Campina Grande, the publication of articles in Letras Raras does not entail any financial cost for the authors. Faculty members and researchers who are part of the technical and scientific committees also contribute on a voluntary basis.

Letras Raras Journal – ISSN 2317-2347
GP/CNPq Laboratory of Studies in Letters and Languages in Contemporary Contexts

Letras Raras Journal [RLR] publishes, in online issues, original and unpublished works by professors and researchers holding at least a PhD degree, as well as PhD candidates in co-authorship with other professionals in the field, at national or international level. The maximum number of co-authors is four.

The journal publishes articles, essays, reviews, interviews, translations, and artistic productions related to the field of Letters and Language Studies.

Submissions may be written in Portuguese, French, English, Spanish, Italian, or German.

All articles are published in a bilingual format, necessarily including a second translated version into a language different from that of the submitted text (Portuguese, French, English, Spanish, Italian, or German).

Process

Authors who submit an article originally written in Portuguese, French, Italian, German, or Spanish must wait for the evaluation process of the original text.

If the text is accepted, after favorable reviews, authors must provide a translation of the original text into the chosen language, having approximately one month to submit this second version.

However, we recommend that the translation be carried out by a professional, since after submission, it will be reviewed by the RLR editorial committee and may be returned to the authors for clarification.

The formatting guidelines for the translated version are the same as those for the original/submitted text.

Only articles whose two versions are accepted will be published. The rejection of one of the versions implies the non-publication of the article.

In the case of research involving human subjects (cf. Resolution No. 510, April 7, 2016), authors must attach the Ethics Committee approval (cf. Plataforma Brasil) as a “supplementary document” at the time of submission. Otherwise, the article cannot be evaluated.

Reviews must refer to recently published works: in Brazil, within the last 2 (two) years; abroad, within the last 4 (four) years.
Translations should preferably be of scientific articles or book chapters.

Interviews must be conducted with researchers of recognized academic prestige in Brazil or abroad, or with writers. The formatting should follow the article parameters, where applicable. In the case of interviews, the submitting author must attach a signed authorization for publication as a supplementary document.

Submission structure

In the submitted version, TITLE, ABSTRACT, and KEYWORDS must appear in the language of the article, followed by the same elements in the chosen language for the translated version; in the translated version, this order is reversed.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s guidelines will be returned to the authors or require revisions indicated in a formal communication.

Submission Process

Authors (maximum of 4) must register (login/password) on the journal’s website.

In the Online Submissions section, complete the profile correctly and select the “AUTHOR” role, filling in all required fields. It is important to save the information.

Then proceed to “NEW SUBMISSION” and follow the five steps:

  1. Start: confirm agreement with journal conditions and copyright statement; select the section “articles”;
  2. Metadata: provide all authors’ data (email, institution, city, state, country, bio), ORCID link (must be created if not available), title and abstract, and funding information;
  3. Upload manuscript: upload the file as the main document, ensuring anonymous authorship;
  4. Supplementary documents:
    • Author information file (mandatory);
    • Originality and unpublished declaration (articles, essays, reviews);
    • Ethics approval (if applicable);
    • Original text (for translations);
    • Authorization statement (for translations);
    • Authorization (for interviews);
  5. Confirmation: finalize submission.

Only one author submits the manuscript, but all authors must be included.

Each author may submit only one text per issue and may only submit again after an interval of two issues. Simultaneous submissions under evaluation are not allowed.

Only submissions via the platform will be accepted.

All submissions undergo plagiarism detection.

If similarities are identified with research projects and/or undergraduate dissertations, master's theses, or doctoral dissertations authored by the same author as the submitted manuscript, Letras Raras Journal will reject the submission. The use of excerpts is permitted provided that they are properly cited, whether through direct or indirect quotation, and appropriately referenced in accordance with the current ABNT standards. When the similarity relates exclusively to the reuse of previously collected research data, its use is permitted up to a limit of 15% (as determined by the report generated by our plagiarism-detection system), provided that the previously published work is properly referenced. If the similarity is not limited exclusively to research data and we identify verbatim reproduction of previously published work or research without proper citation and referencing, the submission will not be accepted, and the manuscript will be archived.
