Abstract: The use of written or spoken language is a routine activity for most Brazilians, especially those recognized as linguistic varieties of speech that border on grammatical prescription. This study aims to analyze the appearance of subject-object pronouns in Brazilian music, with a corpus composed of five songs. Based on bibliographic research and situated in the field of Sociolinguistics and Applied Linguistics, this study has as theoretical subsidies research on linguistic varieties (Bagno, 2004), linguistic variation and change (Labov, 2008) and descriptive grammar (Bechara, 2019; Rocha Lima, 2011). The research shows that, despite being considered errors by normative grammar, these uses are common and recurrent in everyday speech, even among the most educated speakers. It is concluded that the presence of subject-object pronouns in music reflects the real linguistic practice of Brazilian speakers, challenging traditional grammatical norms and demonstrating the vitality and relevance of these forms in contemporary Portuguese.
Keywords: Linguistic variation. Subject-object pronouns. Spoken Portuguese. Brazilian music. Traditional grammar.
