TO INHABIT, TO BELONG, AND TO PARTICIPATE
THE CITY IN THE CONTEXT OF CHILDHOOD

The article analyzes the child as an urban subject through the dimensions of inhabiting, belonging, and participating, which are central to civic formation. Urban space is understood as an educational, social, and political territory, where circulation, play, and everyday interactions shape ways of experiencing the city. The objective is to understand how these dimensions interrelate in the construction of childhood citizenship. The study adopts an exploratory qualitative approach, based on a literature review and analysis of normative frameworks. Findings indicate that inhabiting involves space appropriation; belonging entails affective bonds; participating refers to engagement and being heard. It is concluded that the urban reality limits mobility, play, and space appropriation, compromising autonomy, belonging, and citizenship, and highlighting the need for inclusive, safe, and participatory cities.
