Traditional Amazonian Architecture
A Study of Traditional Knowledge and Skills in the Campompeama River Floodplain, Abaetetuba, Pará

This article analyzes the historical, cultural, and social aspects related to traditional riverine living, materialized in the architectural practices of the palafitic constructions located on the Campompema River, in the lacustrine region of Abaetetuba, northeastern Pará. The research is inserted in the field of vernacular architecture, understood as a sustainable practice, based on local materials and respect for the natural environment, starting from an investigation that adopts an interdisciplinary approach. The results of this study highlight the relationship of these populations with the waters and forests, addressing the vernacular knowledge, practices and techniques present there, and corroborate the understanding and valorization of these constructive practices and ways of life, which guarantee the ecological and cultural balance of the Amazon.
