This article explores the daily life of the Cuiabá Social Reintegration Center (CRC), analyzing how prison space is built, contested, and lived by its different actors. From the lens of Critical Geography and historical-dialectical materialism, the study reads the prison as a social territory marked by hierarchies, exclusions, and survival strategies. The research draws from participant observation and interviews conducted between 2010 and 2014. It highlights how the State's absence is filled by religious institutions, informal markets, and internal power networks, showing that prison is less about rehabilitation and more about reproducing Brazil's social inequalities. The article argues that behind the bars lies humanity: routines, affections, and forms of resistance that challenge the logic of confinement and erasure.
