Abstract: Greek mythology is full of female figures whose symbolism goes beyond the stories they tell. Among these, the Gorgons (Medusa, Eurylale and Stene) are figures that carry complex interpretations linked to femininity, power and repression. The Gorgons, especially Medusa, are known for their terrifying appearance and ability to turn men into stone, and have been interpreted over the centuries as representations of repressed eroticism and patriarchal anxieties about female autonomy and sexuality. This study discusses how these mythological figures are interpreted through a patriarchal lens that represses and demonizes female sexuality, while at the same time reflecting cultural anxieties about female power and autonomy. The analysis will be based on the deconstruction of the myth and the symbolic interpretation of these characters as manifestations of the patriarchy's oppression and fear of female eroticism. To this end, Bourdieu (2012), Saffioti (2015) and Foucault (2001; 2021) will help us discuss power relations and patriarchy; Beauvoir (1970) and Robles (2019) will shed light on gender issues; and Bataille (1987) will base the analysis on eroticism.
