O USO DE CITAÇÕES NA CONSTRUÇÃO DO SER PESQUISADOR DA ÁREA DE LETRAS

Citations, as a means of referencing authors and their works, are an essential resource in academic genre writing. They serve not only to substantiate claims but also as a tool for constructing the identity and positioning of the researcher within the academic community. The general objective of this study is to analyze the use of citations in dissertations within the field of Literature. To this end, an exploratory-descriptive methodology with a qualitative approach was employed. Document analysis focused on dissertations produced by scholars in the Postgraduate Program in Language and Teaching (PPGLE) at the Federal University of Campina Grande. The results of this investigation reveal that citations are not mere mechanical references but play a fundamental role in shaping the researcher's identity. From the analysis, it became evident that in dissertations in the field of Literature, students employ various citation strategies, including direct quotations, paraphrases, and evaluative comments, to engage in academic discourse, establish their authority, and demonstrate their familiarity with the existing body of knowledge. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the need for researchers to be increasingly aware of their citation practices and recognize the potential of this resource to position themselves as researchers in their field.
