SYNTACTIC SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF BENTO FREIRE DE SOUSA SQUARE, IN SOUSA-PB
Abstract
The study investigates the importance of Public Free Space (ELP) for sustainable urban development, focusing on Praça Bento Freire de Sousa, located in the center of Sousa, Paraíba. Amid the city's accelerated growth, there are important local challenges of ownership and accessibility due to the increase in vehicular traffic and the reduction of open spaces. Using Space Syntax Theory, the research analyzes the morphological and behavioral patterns of the square, highlighting the Angular Segment Analysis (ASA) metric on the NAIN (Normalized Integration), NACH (Normalized Choice) and INCH (Integral Choice) scales to evaluate its accessibility and spatial integration. By considering the importance of interdisciplinarity and collaboration between different areas of knowledge, this work not only contributes to theoretical knowledge about urban planning and management of public spaces, but also offers practical information for managers involved in designing more inclusive and sustainable cities
