O CONSERVADORISMO BRASILEIRO NO DISCURSO DE TEMPOS FANTÁSTICOS

Abstract

The 2010s were a period of significant changes in the Brazilian socio-political scenario. With the rise of a reactionary government at the end of the decade, many authors analyzed this moment and transported it to their respective literary works (as it was done in other arts). One of the works was Tempos Fantásticos, a satirical fantastic fiction newspaper created by Angelo Dias, which during 2016 and 2019 criticized the rise of a conservative discourse both in national politics and in society. Therefore, there was a need to explore the critical discursive formations that permeate the newspaper. The general objective is to analyze the critical discursive formations in Tempos Fantásticos; while the specific ones are: to verify the political-ideological position criticized in the text, and to examine the effects of meanings produced through the newspaper's humorous language. This research is based on the concepts of Discourse Analysis by Orlandi (2008; 2009), Pêcheux (2010) and Indursky (2011). Finally, it can be concluded that Tempos Fantásticos criticizes false Brazilian moralism using references to the national political scene through the processes of paraphrase and polysemy. Collective memory is crucial for the reader to perceive the resumption of already established meanings pointed out in the literary text.
