MARQUES DE ALMEIDA FACTORY
INTERVENTION IN THE HERITAGE OF THE AGRESTE PARAIBANO
Abstract
This work addresses the preservation of industrial heritage, taking as a case study the old Fábrica Marques de Almeida, in Campina Grande, Paraíba. The factory, opened during the cotton cycle, is currently in a state of elimination due to abandonment and changes in use. The objective is to carry out a pathological study to diagnose structural and aesthetic damage, maintaining its integrity. The methodology includes planned inspections to identify deteriorated areas and the use of a Damage Map, as proposed by Tinoco (2009), which will concentrate the manifestations of limitations in a graphic-photographic representation, consolidating discoveries about structural and functional changes, as well as Data Sheets. Damage Identification (FID's), standardized documents that graphically record damage, optionally as a faithful portrait of the state of conservation. Rehabilitating the factory would not only preserve its history and architecture, but could also catalyze local socioeconomic development
