Abstract

Drought is a natural, persistent and merciless phenomenon in the historical trajectory of many Brazilian Northeastern generations, characterized by many water scarcity periods and raising their vulnerability. Therefore, we comment about major droughts in the territory through through centuries according to authors like Andrade (1986), Silva et al (2013), Carmo e Lima (2020), among others, which explores as causes as possible solutions, in addition to approach about its resulting effects. After that, we quote several books under what historical, political and social circumstances permeate it take into account intense periods of drought in the space where plots unfold. The objective of this work is about reflecting how popular poetry characterizes the theme of drought. For that, we choose two poems: Cordel A seca do Ceará, from Leandro Gomes de Barros, and the poem Drama nordestino, contained in the book Poesia, folclore e nordeste, from 1985, written by popular poet Antonio Henriques Neto. As theoretical support, we have reflections from Diégues Jr (1986), Luyten (2005),  Scoville (2011), Junior (2015) and Souza (2020).
