LELÉ AND ATHOS
THE ART OF BUILDING WITH ART
Abstract
The text presents a reading about the reinterpretation adopted by the architect João da Gama Filgueiras Lima, Lelé (1932-2014) and by the plastic artist Athos Bulcão (1918-2008) for the integration of the Major Arts (Painting, Sculpture and Architecture) in modern production Brazilian. To this end, a line of understanding of this integration is established in three episodic moments of the partnership between Lelé and Athos: 1) The first artistic interventions by Athos in Lelé's architecture in his residential projects; 2) The process of industrialization of the arts, through the migration of production to the public scale in series, through factories to produce schools and social facilities; 3) The effective integration of art and architecture in the Sarah Network Hospitals and in the Union Courts of Accounts/ TCUs, through the adoption of artistic elements with architectural functions. This rescue aims to strengthen the evidence that the integration proposed by Athos in Lelé's work goes beyond an artistic complementation in the building, but rather a design interaction and artistic and architectural conception.
