ETHNO-ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECONSTRUCTION OF A RESIDENTIAL NUCLEUS IN A FORTIFIED IRON AGE SETTLEMENT

Abstract

This work seeks to establish a relationship between the fields of Archaeology and Architecture. As such, we analysed the possible interrelationship between the archaeological studies of Citânia de Sanfins and the way in which these same studies contributed to the ethno-archaeological reconstruction of a family unit's dwelling, with respect for the building materials, the techniques used and the aesthetics of the intervened building as a reference point, particularly in terms of the physiographic profile of the Castro culture of the north-west of the Portuguese Peninsula.

With this in mind, it is our intention to sensitise the community in general to the importance of rehabilitating the Iron Age fortified settlements found in the Citânia de Sanfins, located in the district of Porto in Portugal. This article aims to demonstrate the reconstruction phases of this settlement, focussing on the historical, identity, theoretical and analytical aspects inherent in this intervention.
