This study, conducted by Horega Natalia Abrantes Morais as part of the Graduate Program in Agroindustrial Systems at the Federal University of Campina Grande, investigates urban arborization in Sousa, PB, from a legal and environmental perspective. The work highlights the importance of urban arborization for quality of life and environmental balance, especially in semi-arid regions like the Sertão Paraibano. The research identifies challenges, such as a lack of planning and the inappropriate selection of tree species, and proposes improvements based on Brazilian environmental legislation. Using a quali-quantitative methodology, questionnaires and interviews were conducted with Sousa’s citizens to understand their perceptions and promote environmental awareness. The expected outcomes include encouraging the use of species suited to the local climate, supporting the development of public policies for arborization, and strengthening the municipality's commitment to environmental sustainability, contributing to healthier and more sustainable urban development.
