Objective: To describe experiences carried out during the Supervised stage I and understand the challenges and stigmas in non-adherence to the Pap smear test in women in the community. Method: This is a descriptive study of the type of experience report, experienced by two students of the nursing course of the 9th period in the Supervised Internship I, offered by the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) campus Cajazeiras- PB in the period of October from 2022 to February 2023. Results and discussions: In view of the practical experience, it was noticed the low adherence of women in the community to carry out the cytopathological collection, even on campaign days, this factor can be triggered by reasons such as: low level of education, inadequate professional health guidance, precarious socioeconomic conditions and fear of the outcome. In view of this, the need to promote health education actions throughout the entire service was seen, with the aim of highlighting the importance of the exam and encouraging adherence to it, while reducing the anxieties that corroborate with low adherence. Final considerations: From the experience, it became evident the importance of health education actions and individualized active listening as a means of attracting women from this community to undergo the Pap smear.
