Keywords:
Prenatal, Paternity, Primary health careAbstract
INTRODUCTION: Primary Health Care is essential in the prevention of diseases and/or injuries, health promotion, recovery and rehabilitation. Among its activities are prenatal consultations, carrying out monitoring of pregnancy and interventions when necessary. The father's participation at this moment stands out as essential to assess his health and improve the family bond. OBJECTIVE: to report the experience of Nursing students and their supervisors during the supervised internship at a Basic Health Unit in the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba, emphasizing prenatal care. METHODOLOGY: This is an experience report, based on the experience of the authors in the internship after realizing the absence of the father in prenatal consultations. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: It was identified that only 2 of the more than 30 pregnant women in the area are usually accompanied by their partner, making comprehensive care difficult. It was also noticed that the pregnant women feel more comfortable with the presence of the partner, strengthening the family bond. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: We found that the presence of the father reduces risks and conflicts for the family and his absence generates numerous problems. We highlight the importance of health professionals encouraging the partner's participation in prenatal care and in the routine of the service, to guarantee quality assistance to the family.
