Abstract

The paper has as its object of study a review of some characters and works that contributed to the dissemination of prefabricated construction as a technical, plastic and cultural manifestation in architecture. For this, it aims to understand
how the constructive practices in contemporary times, which adopt this technique as a design matrix, absorb andmaterialize such influences. This assimilation is built from a line of understanding composed by the review of classics of prefabricated architecture - here defined as precursors and builders, as well as some of the main movements and debates that corroborate the diffusion of this thought in contemporary architecture. The methodology used to structure
this discourse is based on what Serra (2006) defines as a system and processes that permeate and condition the ordering of facts. In this specific case, the potential and challenges that are intrinsic to prefabricated construction in
different contexts and perspectives.
